School Improvements

When you came to school this semester, did you find anything different about the building, something that was not familiar?  During summer vacation, while you were playing with your friends, sweating over basketball or taking a walk with the girl/boy you liked, our school was busy making improvements so we would have a better education once we returned.  Like most people I try not to think about school when I am away, but some of these changes were fantastic and really surprised me when I got back.  Now, I will introduce these changes to you.

One of the first things we noticed when we got back was the large number of flowers in the front of the school. Not only did it make the school look prettier and smell great, it was very nature friendly. It helps to keep fresh air, rich with oxygen in the school. I know it is a little thing, but it makes a big difference to the impression our school gives to the students, teachers, administrators and all visitors, parents or community leaders.   

Last year, our school was finally able to build a gym. It is something we had hoped for ever since we opened in 2008. It is a very comprehensive gym with a great wooden floor, courts for basketball and volleyball as well as separate rooms for smaller activities like gymnastics and weight lifting. There are also extra rooms for drum practice and storage of equipment. We no longer have to go on a bus to a gym outside of school to get exercise. This is especially important in the winter when we must stay inside. 

In addition to being a gym, there is also a stage built on one end that is used for concerts and performances (like our talent shows). We can easily watch games, thanks to long benches. and when the whole school needs to come out the fold up chairs fit on the floor and the whole school can sit in there. 

On the third floor, above the nurses office, some of you might have noticed some work being done in our first week of school. I was trying to figure out what was going on near the 11th and 12th graders. It turns out they built a media room for the school. It is used by the newly established media club as well as for announcements when needed. I know there is not much happening with it yet but I think n the future it will be one of the coolest things to happen in our school. If you get a chance go by there and take a look, there is all kinds of excellent new equipment in there.

Speaking of new media equipment, if you have been to any of the foreign language rooms you know that they have all been remodeled. Not only are there new desks and chairs to sit at but all the rooms now have either a projector or big screen televisions as well as internet connections. No more trying to share the computer lab. As you all know we also have our own computer lab on the third floor for secondary school. No more sharing with elementary school. 

 After you go through the school head out to the back and see the changes on the outside.  The first thing you will notice is the old dusty soccer field is gone. Oh My God, who stole the old soccer field? They also took away the terrible and broken track that was around the field.  In its place we have a NEW SOCCER field with brand new beautiful, soft grass, just waiting to be run all over. Now, if I get pushed down I will only get a grass stain, no pain. The track is brand new with a wonderful finish that makes me want to go running. Next to the track and field are beautiful renovated basketball courts that make me feel like I am Michael Jordon.  Now, the school has been fully supported to play outdoor activity.

Throughout the year, the school has had various renovations. We've constructed a new gymnasium, bought new buses, installed new broadcasting system and multi-media equipment in the foreign language labs. On the outside we and reconstructed the basketball courts, soccer field and running tracks and planted trees and plants inside and out for a fresher look and feel in the school. Though we had remarkable improvements to enhance the convenience of our school, it is planning even more improvements and I can't wait to see what will be happening next.
